Hagar’s Prayer November 3, 2009

Hagar, a servant girl which Abraham and Sarah had evidently picked up when they were in Egypt; has been chosen by them both to become the mother of the heir for the promises of God. This was by no means by God’s direction, but by a serious lack of trust in God’s promise. This has now brought even more conflict within the family.
The following verses are the words of Hagar’s prayer, and our LORD’s answer; actually the LORD’s appearance and speaking to her first:
“7 And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur. 8 And he said, Hagar, Sarai’s maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai. 9 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands. 10 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude. 11 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction. 12 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. 13 And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?” Genesis 16:7-13 (KJV)
“Angel of the LORD” is most likely a pre-incarnate manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the second person of the Triune God. Any word He speaks would be the words of God.
In this revelation to Hagar His first words to her is to return to Sarai, and submit to her. He gives her promise of continued blessing in the family of Ishmael the son she will bear.
We learn from this prayer that the LORD heard the prayer of Hagar, her affliction; and she is awed by the fact the LORD has chosen to reveal Himself to her. Every time you and I pray we should be awed by the fact that God has chosen to reveal Himself to us, speak to us, and give us the privilege and right by new birth (John 1:12) of speaking to Him.
We may not see Him in a physical form as did Hagar, but one day we will see Him face to face, and we will be looking into the face of Jesus.

I was searching the Scriptures to find the first prayer of the Bible and this is the one I have found. There are many others where we are told, the “LORD said” to Adam, Noah, or Abram, but there is only the response of “building an altar on Abram’s part, with no verbal response recorded that I found.
Notice the interchange between the LORD and Abram in Genesis 15-
“After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
2 And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus? 3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir. 4 And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir. 5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. 6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness. 7 And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it. 8 And he said, Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it? 9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon. 10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not. 11 And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away. 12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him. 13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; 14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance. 15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age. 16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full. 17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces. 18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates: 19 The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites, 20 And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims, 21 And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.” Genesis 15:1-21 (KJV)
God first came to Abram with a promise, and a “fear not”, then Abram prays concerning an heir, a son; and whether he should appoint his servant as his heir. God once again promises Abram an heir to receive the land, and all the promises.
When we have a need or a problem; in the way of a question or complaint even; God will hear it, and supply our need, even if it is confirming the original promise.
If this is the first prayer of Scripture why? Most of what we have read was of God speaking to His servants, many of them listening. Adam listened after he sinned. Noah listened when he built the ark, gathered the lumber, and the animals and preached to the people, and Abram listened, but unless I was missing it this is the first prayer where there is a word spoken in request to God.
Why? If this be so, then we can learn from this for the same reason we have one mouth and two ears. We should do twice as much listening as we do speaking. Especially listening to God our LORD.

We must pray for our children. Pray for the Spirit of God to move in their lives, and when He does for Him to direct and lead their lives in obedience to Him.
The following is a request from Gwyn, and my response:
Pray for Seth to be released from the bondage of anger and drugs. To find Gods peace on earth and to love and have an abundance of wonderful friends. A job and to go back to school. Protect him from harm.

Father, touch Seth’s life with YOUR grace and love. He is filled with anger and mind altering drugs which are tools of evil to maim, kill, and destroy. Cast out the works of Satan in Seth’s life by saving him from sin.
Draw Seth to YOURSELF, Lord, redeem him through the blood of YOUR Son Jesus. Deliver him from sin, and into new life in Jesus Christ.

When a Christian marriage is hurting we should all be praying. Here is one we need to lift to our Lord. He is the healer, and desires to make Christian marriages strong for His glory.
This request has my reply and prayer following:
Lord Father God Almighty, Christ Jesus whom I have proclaimed as my Savior. Please protect and save my marriage from doubt and past cruelties. I love my Family and have faith that you will keep this family/marriage in tact and free from divorce and lies. Keep me on a path of truthfulness and refraign from the sins of lies, control, deceitfulness and fear. In Jesus name I pray AMEN

I will post your requests in a while.Father YOU have said “I hate divorce” (Malachi 2:16); and though this woman has not mentioned this we do join with her in requesting protection from this fatal event. Wrap YOUR hands around Carole and her husband; open their eyes to YOUR peace, peacefulness, and the joy that YOU have for them as they rest in YOU.
Strengthen their love for YOU and for one another. May Carole and her husband focus in growing in new fellowship with YOU and strengthen the relationship with you through YOUR Son Jesus Christ.

Me and my husband are trying for a baby. Please pray that this should be the lucky month for us! We so badly want a child. We are both christians and believe in jesus, our lord and savior!

One the areas of lift which is the hardest hit for the Christian home today is marriage. No home is without the need for prayer; let’s join in prayer with Deborah for her marriage, and her husband.
Please pray for my marriage. Ash God to bind satan in my husbands life and to rebuke the unGodly relaionship and to curse it. Destoy all weapons against my marriage and to soften my husbands heart against me and give him love for me again. Inb Jesus name I pray Amen

Father, God of gods, Creator of all the universe, and designer of marriage and the home; we lift Deborah and her husband to the throne of grace. Open the eyes of her husband to his gross sin; first against YOU, secondly against Deborah, and finally against his family and himself.
We do pray that YOU will bind the devil in his assault against marriage and the family. Make Deborah stronger through this trying time in her life and home. Call her husband back into a right relationship with YOU.

sir i & my family (myself h srinivasan, my wife sharada & my daughter geetha) are in deep trouble, i.e., by my father asking us to vacate the house.. in fact i personally nor my family has any grudge against any of their family members.
we were really happy family with whatever we were earning.,in fact my brothers family are jealous on us since we were living a good living all with grace of lord.
my father an ex-service man form air force who is aged about 86 yrs. has a property 30 x 40 site in which he has constructed two outhouses, after my marriage we were separated for almost 25 yrs, by the grace of lord. just 3 yrs back he called us back telling that a portion which was rented has got vacated and that if i liked i can accommodate in that house,
in the other house my father along with my brother h krishnamurthy, his wife satyawati, son asharay are residing, my brother’s wife is a very jealous in fact a poisonous lady, she has managed to brainwash my father for selling the property (on asking some astrologer they said that she has given him to eat something which was mixed with cruel poisonous stuff for changing intentions), she is a such a lady that she created problem for water in the house, & even today she & my brother are continuously mentally torturing & harassing us by passing unwarranted remarks, shutting the doors on our face when ever we pass by. it is this lady courtesy we are almost on street today & begging for rented house with other am not sure where this will end. in fact we have made up our intention to go in for a suicide pact & let them enjoy the future life.
now my father is bent upon selling the property, come what may i am not going to budge to anybody is his present attitude.on 1st nov 2008 he came & knocked our house door and said that he is selling the property, & that i should vacate the place, in a fit of rage, anger i told me what does he mean by asking us to vacate the place. for that he said that he has an alternate, and latter telling that i don’t deserve it.
i now request u to place a prayer at the lords feet so that my father & my brother’s family changes or reverses his decision or his mind & ask us to continue in the same small house.
since 1 nov 08 my family is hell upset on these developments, – undergoing endless mental torture (we r not able to pray, eat or sleep).
beside my father at this ripe age weather he is doing the right or wrong i don’t know. one for sure my brothers family after getting the money they will ditch him. i don’t want this to happen.
my prayer is that let good sense prevail on my father, & my brother’s family & let lord give him good sense & mind to reverse the present thought of selling & retain us in the same place. PRESENTLY MY FAMILY’S LIFE IS IN RUINS.

Father, touch the hearts of Carla and Yosef. They need your hand upon them, protecting them, guiding them into YOUR truth. Sanctify them by YOUR truth; YOUR Word is truth. Deliver them from any fear, and torment that may be in their lives due to the past life.

It has been some time since I posted any requests which have come here. I apologize, and will post some of those which have come in; starting with the most recent one.
Terry requesting prayer for his wife Gerianne:
Please pray for Gerianne. I am requesting a prayer for my love of my life. She is a victim of Abused Child Syndrome and was married to an abusive husband. Because of this, severe problems with menopause and horrible pressure from her mother she became someone totally different from the woman she was. She was so full of love and life and infinitely happy but she is now a different personality, vindictive, mean and cold. She is being controlled and manipulated by those with evil agendas who have ruined her life. Her son-in-law and ex-husband have paid to have an Obeah spell cast on her. The doctors have put her on Proazc and anti-anxiety pills which have radically changed her personality. For the past year she has been spiraling down mentally and morally and the harder I try to save her and comfort her the harder other people work to bring her down. She would rather have died than tell a lie and now lies and immorality rule her life. She attended church EVERY week and now she hasn’t been inside a church in 7 months. Please I ask you, I beg you to pray for her to return to the person she was, to return to the church and especially to return to the love and compassion we used to have as a couple. I beg you to pray in Jesus name for her to return to me where our love was pure, wholesome and unconditional. I ask you to pray for our love. Please pray for my 10 year marriage. I have been standing for my marriage for a 1 1/2 now the paper work for the divorce is almost final. But my husband wants to wait till next month to finalize it. His heart is changing toward me but there is also another person involved. I pray that God would remove the enemies plan for a divorce and God would have victory in our situation. Father, bless these couples and their homes and families. Marriage was instituted by YOU and is a blessing to those who respect and love one another. Put YOUR hand on these men and women, protect them, lead them, correct them in their errors. Lord any that are lost draw them to YOURSELF, and save them through YOUR holy Son Jesus who died for our sins, was buried, and bodily rose from the grave alive forevermore.
